Volunteering

By Maria Warhol

I think that you should volunteer, especially if you are sitting on your couch a lot watching TV.  There are many opportunities to volunteer, but I’m going to tell you about my favorite.

Can you sing and dance?  If you can or even if you can’t, you can get involved with Cross Community Players (CCP).  CCP is an organization that puts on musicals and plays to raise money for the CROSS Food Shelf.  Even if you aren’t the greatest actor, there are still many jobs behind the scenes.

If you like working with cloth and sewing materials, then maybe you would like to help take care of and assign costumes.  Most of the time, you would be ironing costumes while the cast is practicing.

Another thing you can do is work backstage.  If you like kids, then you could help out in the children's dressing room as the supervisor.  Believe me, the kids can get very loud!  The other thing that you can do backstage is change the set and bring on set pieces that aren’t on stage in the scene before.

Even if you don’t do any of these things, you can support CROSS by going to a show and bringing a non-perishable food item.  This helps families who can’t afford their monthly groceries.  December 2001
